An ancient art for today
The practice of healing through the medium of foot massage was commonplace amongst the ancient Egyptians, Chinese and native North American Indians. Reflexology as we know it today began to take shape in the 1930s through the pioneering work of the now legendary American reflexologist Eunice Ingham. She discovered that parts of the hands and feet (reflex points) relate to particular organs and glands in the body. For example in reflexology the big toe is related to the head area.
What happens during a treatment
During your reflexology session, I will apply thumb pressure to the reflex points on the hands and/or feet. This can often bring pain relief and can also benefit the organ or part of the body that corresponds to the reflex. You will also receive wonderfully relaxing foot massage, which can induce blissful calm states of well-being. This deep state of rest ( just 30 minutes of deep relaxation is supposed to be the equivalent of two hours sleep) allows the body's vital powers to be restored - calmly, naturally, deeply.
